What Is a Dental Crown?
In dentistry, a crown or a cap is a fake tooth that fits on top of a damaged tooth. They are custom-made to fit your smile & are built to last. Aside from reasons of tooth decay, a crown may also be needed after undergoing certain dental treatments such as a root canal or large filling that can weaken an affected tooth & make it very vulnerable to cracking or breaking. In those cases, a crown is needed for protection. Crowns can also be used as a cosmetic treatment to improve the look of a misshapen or discolored tooth.
The Same-Day Advantage
Same-day crowns offer both durability & aesthetic appeal, allowing you to eat & smile naturally. Your crown will be custom made to fit your bite, meaning you’ll feel comfortable with your new crown in a short time. Using modern materials, same-day crowns are built to last, meaning you’ll feel confident in your new crown for years to come.
How Does It Get Done in One Visit?
Typically, getting a crown can be a lengthy & difficult process that requires at least two appointments, but with our advanced technology, the procedure is condensed into a convenient single visit.
The most time-consuming part of developing a crown comes from getting an accurate impression of your teeth. Traditionally, a tray of goop is presented for you to bite into & that mold would be sent to a lab to be perfected. However, our specialized scanner can create 3D digital models, so the process is much more streamlined.
After taking pictures of the tooth that needs a crown, the dentist will use those digital photos to create a digital model & once adjusted into a fitting shape & color, a new crown can be milled. From there, your crown will be placed into your mouth & the process is complete! No lab or temporary crowns needed between visits!
Aftercare
To ensure you take proper care of your new crowns & bridges, apply the same oral health practices that you do with the rest of your teeth. Brush & floss daily alongside routine professional cleaning appointments. Be cautious of biting down on especially hard foods & wear nightguards if you are prone to teeth grinding in your sleep. Dental restorations are built to last & give you the strength you need to eat the food you want, but taking precautions & dutiful care will help to prevent any avoidable fractures.
